Meals and Dining in Assisted Living:

meal time

One of the most frequent questions families ask us is: “What are the meals like? Will my loved one get the help they need with eating?”

At Holladay Home, our small 15-bed assisted living home in Holladay, Utah, mealtime is one of the highlights of the day. We treat every meal like a family gathering — warm, delicious, and full of dignity.

Here’s exactly how we support meals and dining.

Home-Cooked Meals Made Fresh Daily Our small kitchen team prepares all meals from scratch using fresh ingredients. Residents enjoy:

  • Three nutritious meals served every day
  • Snacks available any time
  • Special diets and modified textures (soft, pureed, diabetic-friendly, low-sodium, etc.)

We ask about food preferences, allergies, and favorite recipes when someone moves in so the menu feels personal.

Gentle, Respectful Dining Assistance Not everyone needs help, but for those who do, we provide:

  • One-on-one assistance with cutting food, opening packages, or guiding utensils
  • Adaptive utensils and plate guards when needed
  • Encouragement without rushing or making anyone feel dependent
  • Private tray service in the resident’s room if they prefer to eat alone that day

Because we only have 9–15 residents, meals are never rushed. Caregivers sit and chat with residents, making the experience social and enjoyable.

A Warm, Family-Style Atmosphere In our cozy dining room:

  • Everyone eats together at the same time (family-style)
  • Conversations flow naturally
  • Staff join in the meals so no one eats alone
  • Holidays and birthdays are celebrated with special menus and decorations

Many families tell us their loved one looks forward to mealtimes more than they ever did at home.

Why a Small Home Changes Everything In larger assisted living communities, one staff member may be responsible for 20+ residents during meals. At Holladay Home, our team gives each person the time and attention they deserve. This means:

  • Fewer choking risks
  • Better nutrition (residents actually finish their meals)
  • More joy and connection during the day

We Keep Families in the Loop You’ll always know:

  • How well your loved one is eating
  • Any changes in appetite or weight
  • Which foods they’re enjoying most

We also coordinate with doctors or dietitians if special nutritional needs arise.

Ready to Taste the Difference? If you’re concerned about nutrition, meal assistance, or whether your loved one will enjoy mealtimes, we invite you to come experience it for yourself.
